ALASKA CAUCUS RESULTS: REPUBLICANS

As in Iowa, George W. Bush and Steve Forbes finished one-two in Republican precinct caucuses the same night in Alaska. But the results were much closer, as Bush won the non-binding straw vote by a margin of just five votes.

Voting by the Internet was allowed on the largely vacant northern and western frontiers of Alaska, as well as by Alaska Republicans living in Washington, D.C. Ultimately, only 35 votes were cast electronically, but they did provide Bush his margin of victory, as he received 23 of these Internet votes compared to 4 for Forbes. In votes cast on traditional paper ballots, Forbes had a 14-vote edge.
